I am studying the evolutionary states and circumstellar environments of very young low-mass stars forming in nearby dark clouds using the telescopes of Mauna Kea. These infrared imaging and spectroscopic observations reveal much about the stellar properties and circumstellar environments of these young stellar objects (YSOs).
I am also responsible for developing and optimizing astronomical instrumentation, particularly CSHELL, the high resolution near-IR facility spectrograph of the NASA IRTF. I am using CSHELL to conduct a number of scientific studies of YSOs (see Research Interests).
I have taught a graduate class in star formation, and I work with graduate students at UH and other institutes. Email me if you are a student interested in star formation.
